$350,000 in funding from the NSW Government towards the reopening of the Currawarna facility in Bombala.

Member for Monaro Nichole Overall has announced $350,000 in funding from the NSW Government towards the reopening of the Currawarna facility in Bombala.

Despite aged-care being a Federal responsibility, Mrs Overall made direct representations to the NSW Government to secure this funding to assist the local community get this facility back up and running.

“I have secured a $300,000 one-off contribution to re-open the doors of Currawarna – this is a massive step for the community of Bombala,” Mrs Overall said.

“In addition, there is an additional grant of $50,000 to assist with a business case and NSW Health will also provide additional direction to assist the community on the next steps.”

“The $300,000 grant is conditional on a $600,000 co-contribution being provided by the Federal Government, and discussions continue with the Federal Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain on this.”

Chair of Currawarna Assisted Living, Keith Campbell said this is a massive announcement for the Bombala community.

“In my belief this is a watershed moment for getting the project up and going,” Mr Campbell said.

“The additional grant of $50,000 is also incredibly important as it will allow the business plan to be professionally reviewed and will and gives the community confidence.”

“We thank Nichole Overall for recognising the value in the innovative approach we proposed for aged care and social housing in a rural setting.”

Currawarna was built by the community in the 1970s and run by volunteers for more than 20 years.

“This is a huge moment for Bombala and I congratulate the local community who have rallied together and raised more than $120,000 to help bring Currawarna back.”

“We’ve been working on this for over 12 months, from meeting with community and stakeholders, to advocating to the Federal Government – we’re so close to re-opening those doors.”
