SERVICES  AVAILABLE TO THE ELDERLY

PERMANENT

*Move into your own room, all rooms have their own bathrooms, decorate with your own furniture as you would in your own home.

 SHORT TERM (Respite and transition out of hospital care)

*If you are the carer of an elderly person, and you need a break or to go away, bring them for a set period such as 2-8 weeks

*After a hospital admission you, or someone you know, may need supported transition before going home

 DAY CARE/SOCIAL CLUB

*If you are a carer who has an appointment, or needs help with your loved one during the day, they can be dropped off from 9am and picked up any time before 5pm

  

FORTNIGHTLY CHARGES FOR EACH CLIENT

NO RAD (Refundable Accommodation Deposit), DAP (Daily Accommodation Payment), OR BOND IS CHARGED

ROOM RENT (per fortnight)

  • $1308.28 – Room 3

  • $985.28 – Rooms 1, 2 ,69, 70 & 51

  • $662.28 - Rooms 50 through to 68 except 51

  • $565.38 – Rooms 30 to 40

This includes electricity, heating, insurance, Wi-Fi and use of all facilities

FOOD (per fortnight)

  • $240

  • 3 inhouse cooked main meals plus morning & afternoon tea & supper

The above charges (food and rent) could be covered by the person’s Aged or Self-funded Pension & are NOT MEANS TESTED, but will increase when Pensions increase twice yearly

  • Maximum Single Aged Pension rate = $1,144.40/fortnight ($29,754.40 annually)

BASIC CARE SERVICES (per fortnight)

  • $836.92

Basic Care fees remain the same for all Currawarna clients and could potentially be covered by an Aged Care Home Care Package, or your assets such as renting or selling your home, leasing or selling farmland

  • Individuals, subject to assessment, may qualify for Federally funded Care at Home Packages, DVA packages or similar support. These funds are to be used to purchase care and services that meet the clients care needs

  • If you do/were to receive an Aged Care Package, you will receive approximately the following amount per fortnight

    • Level 1 - $411.05 (Basic care needs – $10,687.20 annually)

    • Level 2 -$722.84 (Low care needs – $18,793.85 annually)

    • Level 3 - $1,573.29 (Intermediate care needs – $40,905.55 annually)

    • Level 4 - $2,385.13 (High care needs – $62,013.50 annually)

  • All Aged Care Packages are means tested by the Government, and in addition, providers of your package charge between 15-40% of the package for management fees (depending on which provider you go with, or unless you go through a self-management provider who charge lower fees).

Excerpt from Chair of the Board’s Report February 2024:

“It has come to the Board’s, and my, attention that certain people are of the view that Currawarna will be outside the financial capacity of many of our community members. Let me be very plain on this point, if a person has a single pension and a level three or four federal care at home package, they will be more than able to afford to stay at Currawarna. Each person’s financial position will be different, so we strongly encourage anybody with an interest in the services of Currawarna to contact Maddie directly. Please remember there are no large residential age care deposits and that any support you currently receive in your own home is still available if you move into Currawarna.”
